A cooking program in Cornwall over March Break is helping youth build kitchen skills while learning how food impacts their health. The “Your Brain on Food – March Break Edition,” organized by the Social Development Council SDGCA, offered free sessions for ages 10 to 15 at the Cline House Studio.
Youth Coordinator Cassandra Forget said the program combines hands-on cooking with practical nutrition lessons. “We are offering three sessions… a class that supports youth in developing their cooking skills and also learning about healthy alternatives,” she said.
Demand was strong, with sessions filling quickly. “All sessions are completely full… it filled up within an hour,” Forget noted.
Participants worked with whole ingredients, including flours and fresh produce, while exploring how food affects energy and focus. “The food they’re cooking today doesn’t only fuel their brains but also fuels their body,” she said.
Forget added the program also builds social connections. “It gives them an opportunity to connect… from different backgrounds,” she said.
