The Stormont Agricultural Society has announced a new partnership with Guildcrest Homes to replace and modernize the iconic backstop at the Stormont County Fairgrounds in Newington. The structure has been a central feature of the annual 3-Pitch Tournament for nearly 30 years, attracting over 300 players each Labour Day weekend.
“With Guildcrest Homes’ generous support, we can provide a safer, more functional space that will attract more rentals, tournaments, and provide the potential for year-round community use,” said Teresa Burd, Advertising Chair for the Society.
The new backstop, designed with player and organizer input, includes improvements to the diamond, dugouts, and fencing. The Stormont Agricultural Society plans to unveil the upgraded space during this year’s Fair.
Held annually since 1867, the Stormont County Fair welcomes more than 13,000 visitors for events like the Demolition Derby, livestock shows, midway rides, and live entertainment.
Organizers hope the upgraded facility will strengthen community engagement and boost local economic activity.
