Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School students spent two days recently running a food drive outside Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer in Cornwall. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, volunteers greeted shoppers, collected non-perishable food, and accepted cash donations to support families in need. Teacher and Grade 10 food drive lead David Pilon said the event was part of a friendly school-wide competition. “The largest contributor gets a dress-down day, and any grade that reaches a certain level of participation also gets a dress-down day,” he said, adding that students from different grades signed up for shifts over the weekend. Outside the entrance, Holy Trinity’s Falcon mascot joined students holding donation signs while carolers sang Christmas songs. “Everyone’s been really eager to donate, especially supporting HT because we’re such a great school and we have a great image,” said Grade 12 student volunteer Glenn Rose Pyke. Each day the trailer quickly filled up. The food collected will support Boom 101.9’s Stuff the Studio campaign, helping to stock the shelves at Knox-St. Paul’s United Church’s food bank ahead of the holidays.
