The annual Jingle Bell Bake Sale to raise funds for Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital was held recently at La Fraternité hall in Alexandria. The bake sale has been hosted at La Fraternité for three years, when the pandemic forced its move from the hospital to ensure the protection of patients.
Mario Riggio has been organizing the Jingle Bell Bake Sale for 25 years, with the help of dedicated volunteers and auxiliary members, such as Edna Lalonde who has volunteered for more than 40 years. HGMH’s auxiliary was established in 1966 and has raised over $250,000 through over 500,000 volunteer hours.
The auxiliary’s mission is to promote positive public relations and offer volunteer services that assist HGMH provide enhanced care for patients. Riggio said that the funds raised will be used for hospital necessities such as overbed tables and warming blankets.
Riggio said the Jingle Bell Bake Sale is the primary, annual fundraiser for the auxiliary and is well supported by the community. All the baked cookies and sweets were sold out within an hour of the start of the sale. In addition, local businesses and some volunteers donated flowers and prizes.
