Cornwall officially broke ground on a new outdoor “street-style” gym at the Cornwall Youth Space in Alexander Park, a youth-designed hub near Adolphus and Eighth streets. The gym is being funded through a $75,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Cornwall, which Dean Stanley, the club’s treasurer and past president, said the club chose as its signature project for its 75th anniversary.
“They approached us… interested in recreating something similar to what the two Rotary clubs had done down in Lamoureux Park,” Stanley explained, adding that Rotary liked the idea because “it was really youth driven.” He said the equipment was selected by the Youth Space advisory group and has already been purchased, with the site now being prepared for installation.
The outdoor gym is part of a multi-phase overhaul intended to give teens a safe place to gather and stay active, alongside recent 2025 upgrades such as a full-size basketball court, lighting, and a bike rack and bottle-filling station. Dean said organizers hope the gym is largely installed by month’s end, with a spring grand opening likely once final touch-ups are complete.
