An extreme cold and blustery February Saturday didn’t discourage competitors from taking part in the 12th Annual Summerstown/Dion Snowshoe Race. More than 50 competitors participated in the race which offered distances of 8.4 kilometres to qualify for the Dion Points Series and 4.4 kilometres for the Summerstown Forest Challenge. Teams were from across Ontario, including Kingston, Ottawa, Cornwall and Glengarry, with additional racers from the Paul Smith College varsity snowshoe team, who travelled from New York State to participate. Racers’ ages ranged from teenage to 70s; some chasing points and others who only participate in two or three snowshoe races each winter. More inside.
