Ted Conway, a sales representative at Seaway News, needs you to help him regain his freedom. The affable Conway has been “arrested” on the trumped-up charge of “being too charming.”
It would be a real crime if you did not donate money to Conway and other willing “jailbirds” who are participating in the annual Jail and Bail fundraiser organized by Beyond 21. Conway will have a lot of company while he is detained. “We are approaching 30 jailbirds – the most we have ever had,” says Beyond 21 Executive Director Amy Malyon. Good-natured community members are being “arrested” on humorous, made-up charge and challenged to raise bail. The “jailbirds” have been nominated by friends, family, or colleagues and must appeal for donations to secure their release. Jailbirds have seven days to raise a minimum bail of $750, with all proceeds supporting adults with developmental disabilities at Beyond 21. This year the goal is to raise $20,000.
