The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing to roll out the red carpet for one of its most anticipated annual events, the Business Excellence Awards and Citizen of the Year celebration, which will take place on Thursday, October 3 at the Ramada by Wyndham.
The gala begins with a champagne reception at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Hosted by Jamie Carr and Simon McLinden, the event brings together business leaders, entrepreneurs, and residents to celebrate the individuals and organizations shaping Cornwall and the surrounding region.
“Day in and day out there are people in our community that are doing incredible things. The Business Excellence Awards & Citizen of the Year gives us an opportunity to recognize those entrepreneurs, businesses, organizations, and individuals.” said Chamber President Cristian Urroz.
For the Inclusion and Diversity Award, finalists are Farhana Meghji, Peace Machine Tattoo, and Rachel’s Kids – Park of Hope. In the Environmental Impact Award category, Munroes Mills Flower Co., IPG-Cantech, and the St. Lawrence River Institute are nominated for their contributions to sustainability.
The Community Impact Award honours unique accomplishments that benefit the region. This year’s finalists include Business Sisters, Maison Baldwin House, and W3 Girls led by Debbie Burns. In tourism, three cultural mainstays-Akwesasne Pow Wow, Cline House Gallery, and the Glengarry Highland Games-are nominated for the Tourism Excellence Award.
Businesses large and small are also in the spotlight. Bud’s Records, Ionic Electric, and Seaway Office Pro are finalists in the Small to Medium Business category, while McDonald’s franchises in Cornwall and Lancaster, Olson Fab, St. Joseph’s Continuing Care, and Walmart Logistics are contenders in the Large Business category.
Entrepreneurial success is celebrated with Joel and Summer Stang of Cowan’s Dairy and Stang Electric, Robert Martin of Tight Lines Tackle, and Jason Shoot of Séguin Patate vying for Entrepreneur of the Year. In the New Business of the Year category, Cornwall Connector, On a le choix, and Mo’s Events are nominated for their rapid growth and community presence.
The next generation of leaders is also honoured. Gina Scandrett of Bourgon Construction, Katy Cartier of KAtea, and Kelsey Lee of Love and Lee are finalists for Young Professional of the Year.
Alongside these categories, several prestigious honours will be unveiled at the gala. The Lifetime Business Achievement Award will recognize a career of outstanding contribution, while the President’s Award, selected by the Chamber President, will highlight extraordinary actions that support the Chamber’s mission. The highly respected Citizen of the Year Award, first introduced in 1972, will once again celebrate a local resident whose leadership and dedication have left a lasting impact on the community.
“While it’s likely these people aren’t doing what they do to be recognized, giving an award is our communities way of saying thank you, we see you, and we appreciate you! After all, our goal with the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce is to help foster this and support those people in our community!” Urroz concluded.
Tickets are now on sale, and the Chamber encourages residents and business leaders to secure their seats early. With champagne toasts, networking, and the recognition of outstanding achievement, the October 3 gala promises to be a night of celebration and inspiration.
