The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) held a sod turning ceremony on September 22 to celebrate the future home of Cornwall’s new public secondary school. Students, staff, trustees, and local officials gathered to mark the beginning of the long-awaited project.
“Today marks another milestone in this long-term vision,” said Trustee David McDonald. The Grade 7-12 school will merge Cornwall Collegiate and St. Lawrence Secondary, creating space for 1,400 students. It will feature modern classrooms, trades and Indigenous learning areas, two double gyms, and a full track and field facility.
Board Chair Jamie Schoular called it “a proud day,” recognizing the support of the Ministry of Education and local MPP Nolan Quinn. “Our government is proud to invest in Cornwall’s newest secondary school,” said Quinn, calling it a milestone for the region.
It will be the first English public secondary school built in Cornwall in over 50 years. The project will go to tender in spring 2026, with doors expected to open in September 2029.
