The McConnell Medical Centre in Cornwall opened its doors October 19 for a family-friendly Meet and Greet BBQ showcasing recent improvements under new ownership. Visitors enjoyed lunch, kids’ activities, and a chance to learn more about healthcare services and job opportunities.
Organizer Katy O’Connor, founder of Fishing for Autism, said the event was about community connection and future care. “McConnell Medical Centre has new ownership recently and they approached me to put on a meet and greet,” said O’Connor.
The event featured a bubble house, live music by the Soul Station Orchestra, desserts from the Coffee Lab, glitter tattoos, games, and booths from five MMC businesses. Visitors could also enter to win a fully furnished sensory room courtesy of Fishing for Autism.
“It was a beautiful community engagement event with a charitable initiative to raise funds in support of Fishing for Autism – helping make a difference in our community,” O’Connor stated.
Fishing for Autism builds fully furnished sensory rooms for children with autism and sensory processing challenges, creating safe and calming spaces that support emotional regulation and development.
“We had donation jars out and MMC matched every dollar donated to go towards the rooms,” added O’Connor.
