On Saturday, October 4, the Seaway Valley Music Academy celebrated its first anniversary with a festive open house. Families, students, and community members-including MP Eric Duncan-visited the Cornwall-based music school to enjoy student and teacher performances, prize draws, and a tour of the growing facility.
Founded by local musicians Katie Smith and Keegan Larose, the Academy launched in October 2024 with just four staff. One year later, it has doubled in size, offering private lessons in piano, guitar, drums, and more, plus group classes like Youth Choir and Beat Bop Kids.
Guests also enjoyed artwork from the Academy’s Featured Artist Program and prize donations from Melody Music Centre, Rainbow Music, and Cintini Art.
“We’re still smiling from all the joy our 1st anniversary party brought us,” said Smith. “Thank you to all who made it such a special day.”
Larose added, “Many thanks to everyone who celebrated with us. Cheers to another great year!”
The Academy is now preparing for its second annual Winter Concert, set for December 7 at the DEV Centre.
