Over the past few weeks, I was honoured to take part in several announcements and events that are showcasing new beginnings in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.
Alongside the Upper Canada District School Board, we broke ground on the site of the new Cornwall Secondary School, which is supported by a $51 million investment by our government.
The new school will welcome 1,400 students from grades 7 to 12 and offer a state-of-the-art classroom experience, allowing students to reach their full potential.
I also had the honour of welcoming two of my colleagues to Cornwall to share more exciting news for our city and region.
I joined Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Todd McCarthy to announce a $435,000 investment into the St. Lawrence River Institute. This investment will go towards vital restoration that will ensure the long-term sustainability of the river for decades to come.
I also joined Solicitor General of Ontario, Michael Kerzner to announce that Ontario’s Basic Constable Training (BCT) program will be delivered in two locations simultaneously, with Cornwall being selected to host the additional training site.
This expansion will allow up to 121 new recruits to complete their training at the DEV Hotel and Conference Centre. Training in Cornwall will equip new officers with essential skills in law, leadership, mental health response, de-escalation, and community engagement, preparing them to serve and protect communities across the province.
Beyond strengthening Ontario’s police recruitment efforts, this initiative will bring economic benefits to local hotels, restaurants, and small businesses as recruits and instructors spend time here over the coming months.
I am proud that our government continues to invest into Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry. Whether it be a new school, our beautiful St. Lawrence River, or through the expansion of police education, we are working together to ensure that SDSG is a world-class place to live, work and raise a family.
