Seaway News is marking 40 years of community journalism in Cornwall, Ontario. Since 1985, the weekly paper has covered local milestones, municipal decisions, cultural events, and everyday stories that matter to residents.
To commemorate the occasion, Seaway News released a special anniversary edition in September featuring a retrospective titled Celebrating 40 Years of Seaway News – A Community Story. The City of Cornwall also recognized the milestone with an official presentation at City Hall.
Mayor Justin Towndale presented a certificate acknowledging the 40th anniversary, calling Seaway News “one of the most reliable news sources in the region today.” He added, “In an age when print media is fading away, the Seaway News is only growing and flourishing.”
Rick Shaver, who accepted the certificate on behalf of the paper, reflected, “Little did I know that back in ’85, I’d be standing here 40 years later still promoting the product… The combination of print, social media, and our magazine division gives the community a full picture.”
After the presentation, Rick Shaver was also invited to sign the City’s Book of Acknowledgment. Both he and Mayor Towndale recognized Seaway News’ contributions to the community and expressed hope that the publication remains a fixture for decades to come.
