Construction at Massey Commons is progressing steadily, with completion targeted for June 23, 2026. Cornwall City Council received an update recently, outlining major milestones since the site mobilized in late July. Demolition occurred between August and October, and exterior wall framing is now underway.
Roofing has begun, with installation of windows expected by mid-December. Once sealed, interior work will continue throughout the winter.
“It’s exciting to see progress every time I pass by,” said Councillor Elaine MacDonald, who asked if the gymnasium wall facing Cumberland Street will soon include windows. “There’s going to be windows,” confirmed Lisa Smith, Manager of Housing Services. “We’re just not that far along yet.”
The Massey Commons housing project will be fully compliant with Barrier Free Building code requirements, ensuring accessible and equitable housing. The building will include modern energy-efficiency upgrades such as heat pumps and high-performance windows.
