Staff at Cornwall’s Glen Stor Dun Lodge and the City of Cornwall have reached an agreement they say will strengthen resident care and improve scheduling.
Talks between management and members of CUPE Local 1792 followed a series of rallies and information pickets at city hall, where long-term care workers raised concerns about fair and accurate staffing.
“We are grateful for the support we received from our community that helped ensure an amicable resolution to this issue,” said Aileen Raven, president of CUPE Local 1792. “While our fight for our residents is over, we know other long term care facilities are facing similar challenges. We will continue to support our sister, CUPE Local 3251, as well as other unions in their fights.”
“The City of Cornwall is pleased to announce a positive outcome with CUPE Local 1792,” added Deputy CAO and Fire Chief Matthew Stephenson. “At the heart of our efforts is a commitment to providing the highest quality of care for residents.”
CUPE Local 3251, whose members provide municipal services, remains in bargaining with the city after layoff notices to 14 workers and a strike vote where 90 per cent backed job action if necessary.
