The sounds of voices, lifted in song, filled St. Finnan’s Basilica in Alexandria, as the community gathered for a Christmas concert featuring 17 groups who entertained the crowd that had gathered at the Basilica, leaving few pews empty.
Admission was a free-will offering with proceeds going to the church’s community outreach programs. Beautiful harmonies, toe-tapping Celtic sounds of the fiddle and accordion, along with beautiful accompaniment by talented pianists made for a most enjoyable time.
St. Anthony’s Choir, dressed in red, set the tone for the afternoon of favourite Christmas songs and music.
Performers of all ages shared their talents with the appreciative audience; the faces of proud parents and families wore great smiles. From sweet, angelic voices of children to the powerful vocals of the Morris Family, St. Finnan’s Basilica resonated with celebrations of the season. Father Steven Gaudet joined the David MacPhee group of fiddlers to perform a Christmas medley, and the Caddell family was together, with Sarah’s amazing vocals leading the group.
The event showcased the amazing, abundance of talent the community is fortunate to have.
The words of one song, in particular, echoed the efforts of the performers – to celebrate, to share the joy of music and to sing as one in harmony.
