SDG Taekwondo’s open house at 251 Pitt St. included a black belt presentation to nine students reaching first-degree black belt after about five years of steady training.
Club owner and chief instructor Brent Stang, a certified black belt with more than 35 years in Taekwondo and nearing his 15th year teaching in Cornwall, said the ceremony is one of his favourite days on the calendar. “It’s really quite neat. I have several families that are doing it, brothers and sisters, mom and dad and daughter,” he said, calling it “an absolute honour” to see students reach the final stretch toward black belt.
The morning also recognized Mayor Justin Towndale with an honourary black belt. As part of the tradition, Towndale stepped onto the mat for a board break, driving his hand cleanly through the wood as instructors, students, and families cheered.
SDG Taekwondo has operated in Cornwall since 2011, offering programs for all ages and skill levels focused on fitness, self-defence, discipline, and confidence.
