Five people have been displaced by a fire that broke out in a semi-detached residence in the 600 block of Jase Street in Cornwall January 29.
The occupants were not at home when the fire was reported at 3:54 p.m.
Cornwall Fire Service investigators will begin their investigation to determine the origin and cause. Jase St will remain closed during this process, open only to local traffic, and residents in the area are advised to avoid the scene.
“The prompt response by Cornwall Fire Services helped contain the fire to one side of the semi-detached structure,” said Matthew Stephenson, Deputy CAO and Chief of Fire Services. “I am proud of their efforts to protect lives and property. Thankfully, no one was home at the time of the fire, and thanks to the vigilance of neighbours, the fire was reported quickly.”
Cornwall Fire had 13 firefighters on shift at the time of the call and mobilized an additional 6 firefighters for added resources and be available to respond to emergency calls in the city. The initial response included two pumper trucks, one aerial and one rescue apparatus.
