Filmmaker and musician James Hardiment is bringing his latest cinematic creation back to his hometown. Katahdin: Sequel to Windigo, a 103-minute action-adventure feature shot entirely in Canada on a shoestring budget, is expected to premiere in Cornwall this spring, with the exact venue and date to be announced in the coming weeks. “The first premiere we want to be in Cornwall since most of the film was made around here and a large portion of the cast and crew is from here too or Ottawa,” said Hardiment, who grew up in Cornwall and splits his time between Canada and the UK. He describes the film as a spiritual sequel to his earlier work Windigo. The story follows private investigator Emma Stetson as she searches for her missing cousin, Brandon Carling. Her journey leads her to team up with Reese Emerson, a washed-up documentary filmmaker connected to Brandon’s disappearance in 2004. What begins as a missing persons case soon unravels into a globe-trotting (and satirical) thriller that plays with contemporary themes like drone warfare, AI, and political surveillance-all while embracing the spirit of classic adventure franchises like James Bond and Indiana Jones. “Katahdin is actually the tallest mountain in the state of Maine,” explained Hardiment.
