Liz Quenville, the longtime President of Diversity Cornwall, has announced she will be stepping down from her role effective March 31, marking the end of nearly a decade of service to the organization. Born and raised in Cornwall, Quenville joined the board in 2017 with a deep passion for building space for 2SLGBTQ+ families and youth. “I absolutely love this organization, and I have seen first-hand the massive impact that the organization has had on our community over the past 10 years,” she said in a statement. “The importance of the visibility that Diversity Cornwall has brought to our community cannot be understated.”
Diversity Cornwall is a registered charity known for organizing the annual Pride Festival and Parade, peer support groups, Pride Prom, discussion panels, game nights, arts and music programming, and other events aimed at fostering inclusion and representation. In 2023, it opened a downtown location at 167 Pitt St. and in July 2025, the City of Cornwall unveiled a permanent rainbow crosswalk on the same block.
Of all the initiatives Quenville helped champion, she says the Gender Affirming Program (GAP) is her proudest legacy. “Many of these folks contacted me personally, and were desperate to find support for themselves or their family members. We were able to help hundreds of individuals who could not access the life-saving care that they needed elsewhere in our community.”
Funded in part by the United Way/Centraide of SDG, GAP filled a vital need but the work also came with a cost. Quenville spoke candidly about the toll of dealing with political pressure, harassment, and hate mail, all while fundraising to keep programs running. “It’s time for a break.”
She expressed gratitude to supporters, volunteers, and board members: “Without you, Diversity Cornwall as it exists today would not have been possible.” Quenville concluded by saying she is “excited for what the future holds” and confident that the community will continue to support the organization’s vital mission.
