Many of us take for granted the comfort of a warm and safe place to call home. We currently have people in our community without housing for a variety of reasons, trying to survive the harsh winter temperatures. No matter the reason for being unhoused, everyone deserves the right to be safe and warm. The Agape Centre has partnered with the City of Cornwall to open our Community Kitchen space overnight to offer a temporary Warming Centre for anyone in need of shelter from 11 p.m.-7 a.m.. For days that have seen extremely cold temperatures, the hours of operation have been extended. The Warming Centre has been well attended by people seeking this essential overnight service and using public spaces during the day.
The Agape Centre is committed to being part of the solution for people experiencing poverty and food insecurity and now for those without housing. We continue to expand our services to remove barriers and fill in the gaps in services to ensure the safety and well being of our most vulnerable citizens. Partnerships are key to providing quality services and programming, working together towards a common goal. The Warming Centre is proving to be an effective, short-term solution that fulfills an immediate need for those exposed to the cold winter nights.
