The following letter is addressed to Cornwall Mayor Justin Towndale.
The east end is no place for the bridge housing project and everyone around the Council table knows it. If it goes ahead it will only add to the historic social disorder in the area. The entire thing is a complete waste of money. Council should strongly consider using the $2.5M from this project, and direct it into subsidizing existing rooms that are already available at any number of rest homes in the city. I spoke personally to the owner of Marlborough Place and I was informed that there would be rooms available immediately, if it was subsidized. Also, they have staff who are trained to deal with individuals who may have special needs. If this project goes ahead in the east end, it will be just another nail in the coffin of an already dying area and I’m sure Chuck Charlebois would be very disappointed.
