Job Zone d’emploi, in partnership with CÉSOC, hosted a well-attended job fair, drawing steady crowds at its Pitt Street office. About 400 attended, including more than 200 people who arrived in the first hour alone, signaling the community’s demand for direct, in-person employment networking.
The fair featured 14 employers from a wide range of sectors, including education, health care, policing, manufacturing, hospitality, community services, and skilled trades. Participating organizations included D.R. Fencing, Herb’s Towing, Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien, Monte Carlo Motel, Community Living Stormont County, Southbridge Care Homes, Cornwall Police Service, Desjardins, LV Fencing, FCM Recycling, Les Amis du Cerf, Hood Packaging, Manderley Turf Products, and Job Zone d’emploi. Director of Community Relations Kim Arbic said the strong turnout reflects the value of meeting employers face-to-face. “This gives the job seeker the opportunity to speak directly with the employer, and it gives employers a chance to really get to know candidates,” she said. Job Zone d’emploi staff noted that many attendees were already registered clients, receiving support with resumes, interview preparation, and job-search strategies before arriving at the fair.
For employers, the event offered a chance to connect with candidates beyond online applications. Mélaine Leroux, Assistant Director of Member Services at Desjardins, said the human interaction was a major benefit. “It’s great to see so many people and talk about the different types of positions we have available. It’s nice to make the human connection rather than just online.”
