Residents across the SDG Counties are discovering a new kind of borrowing experience at the SDG Library, one that goes far beyond books. The Library of Things, an increasingly popular service at the library, is giving patrons access to a growing collection of practical, fun, and often expensive items that can be borrowed just like a book.
The idea is simple: instead of purchasing a tool or gadget that you might only use once or twice, you can borrow it for free with your library card. The collection includes everything from iPads to Kobos, board games to musical instruments, and household tools. For many families, it’s becoming a cost-saving way to try new hobbies, tackle home projects, or enjoy weekend activities without the financial commitment of buying equipment.
By offering items that support creativity, learning, and everyday living, the Library of Things helps reduce waste and encourages residents to explore new interests. Popular items include energy meters for home efficiency checks, acoustic guitars for beginners, and outdoor activity kits that make family adventures more accessible.
As the SDG Library continues to expand the collection, the Library of Things is proving that a modern library can be a hub for hands-on learning, sustainable living, and shared experiences, one borrowed item at a time. Visit our website to view the entire collection – www.sdglibrary.ca
The SDG Library encompasses 15 branches and three express depots across the local municipalities of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry. For further information please contact SDG Library Communications and Marketing Coordinator Maria Steffen at msteffen@sdglibrary.ca or (cell) 613-577-1864.
