Since 2017, the North Glengarry Fire Department has been hosting an Evening of Recognition for its dedicated team of firefighters.
This year’s event recognized the levels of certification that firefighters have worked to achieve, including Firefighter I and II, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) fully certified firefighters, including hazardous materials (HAZMAT) certification, Fire Officer as well as Fire Instructor credentials. Additionally, the evening celebrated its Long Service Award recipients. Member of Parliament for Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, Eric Duncan attended the event to present these special Awards.
Allan Jensen, District Chief for Apple Hill, was recognized for 40 years of service.
District Chief for Alexandria, Denis Lalonde, was saluted for 30 years of service. Kevin Villeneuve was awarded the Ontario Long Service Medal for his 25 years as a firefighter. Fire Department Chief Matthew Roy was awarded the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal for his 20 years of service to the Township.
In 2025, eight new recruits joined the team of North Glengarry firefighters, completing their practical skills training for their Firefighter I certification through the NFPA. To achieve full Firefighter I level, these recruits will have to successfully complete a written exam.
Two retirees from the North Glengarry Fire Department were also honoured for their years of volunteer service. Joey Lacasse and Alexandre Lalonde hung up their bunker gear and retired their badges for the Township.
“Congratulations to all of our firefighters for their continued excellence and dedication to serving our community,” said the North Glengarry Fire Department, “and a thank you to the friends and family supporting them behind the scenes!”
