The $9.7 million project remains within budget, with change orders currently at eight percent-well within the expected five to 10 percent range for renovations of this scale.
Lisa Smith, Manager of Human Services, clarified the figure after a question from Councillor Fred Ngoundjo. “We’re well within the range for what’s acceptable for change orders on a project of this size,” Smith said.
Council also heard that key construction milestones are progressing as planned, including an anticipated occupancy permit date of May 28 and final completion by June 29. General Manager Mellissa Morgan confirmed the timeline remains on target.
Councillor Elaine MacDonald pointed to recent work as a sign of strong progress. “The street was blocked for 10 days, and they wrapped up three days early,” she said. “That was really great, speaking of their progress and pace.”
Councillor Sarah Good said the project will help address urgent housing needs in the community. “When we don’t have housing options, this is going to help address that very significant need,” she said.
An open house and ribbon-cutting event are now being planned ahead of the building’s completion.
