At the end of March, our government presented Ontario’s 2026 Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. At a time of global economic uncertainty and ongoing tariff pressures, I’m proud of the plan we’re putting forward which is responsible, forward-looking, and focused on delivering results for our families, workers, and businesses across Ontario, including right here in SDG.
Through this Budget, we are continuing to increase funding for key priorities like infrastructure and health care, as well as providing substantial tax relief to make life more affordable.
Some key highlights from the Budget include an additional $3.4 billion in funding to connect everyone to primary care. This funding would build on our government’s previous investment of over $1.8 million to bolster our local healthcare system to increase surgical and CT Scan capacity at Cornwall Community Hospital and Winchester District Memorial hospital.
Another exciting highlight for SDG is that our government will be allocating an additional $300 million to the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund. This will bring the total funding to $500 million to upgrade and repair local arenas, as well as build new facilities in communities across Ontario. Last year, we invested over $1.4 million through this fund to upgrade the Morrisburg Arena and the Char-Lan Recreation Centre, ensuring our community has modern and state-of-the-art facilities to stay active in.
To continue strengthening our economy, our Budget will also further support small businesses by reducing the small business corporate income tax rate from 3.2 per cent to 2.2 per cent. This change will benefit over 375,000 businesses across Ontario, including many in SDG who will be able to use the savings to reinvest, grow, and create good jobs right in our community.
I am excited to share more of what this Budget means for SDG and our community over the next few months. Our government will continue protecting Ontario and building our province into the most competitive, resilient and self-reliant economy in the G7.
