The Editor,
The recent news about our city council spending even more of taxpayers’ hard-earned money on arts and culture projects is becoming difficult to understand.
Water meters, green bins, an arts centre – it seems very easy to spend money when it isn’t your own.
Meanwhile, residents are facing what feels like endless tax increases. People are openly camping in our parks, garbage is piling up in parts of the east end, and panhandling has become a daily sight across the city. Yet council’s priority seems to be spending more money on the arts centre.
At some point, council needs to reconnect with the reality ordinary people are living in. Many families are struggling just to keep up with rising costs, property taxes, groceries, and housing.
Residents want to see their tax dollars focused on core services, public safety, cleanliness, and improving the overall quality of life in our community – not more spending on projects many cannot afford to support right now.
The people of Cornwall deserve a council that understands the difference between wants and needs.
