La Citadelle’s senior boys soccer team is heading to OFSAA after capturing the EOSSAA championship with an undefeated run through the tournament.
The Patriots opened competition with a 2-0 victory over Almonte before defeating Jeanne-Lajoie 4-2.
They then blanked South Grenville 3-0 in the semifinals and secured the championship with a 3-0 win over Marie-Rivier in the final.
In the championship match, Mason Trépanier scored twice, while Gilbert Mfite added the other goal.
Goalkeeper James Mbutu also made a key penalty-shot save early in the game to help preserve the victory.
“I’m extremely excited for this opportunity to go to OFSAA. I’m very proud of how we played as a team and how we pushed through every single battle to win EOSSAA,” said team captain Malyx Bergeron-Dinelle. “This has always been my high school dream, to go to ‘The Promise Land’ like my coach says.”
Coach Joel Levac credited the players’ commitment on and off the field.
“Winning is not easy. A lot of things have to go right,” Levac said. “We’re very fortunate at La Citadelle to have great soccer players but they’re even better people.”
