The Editor,
In reading the article entitled “This may make your skin crawl” (My View, May 13) I felt it was quite informative. Ticks are becoming quite a topic of conversation as of late. I would like to provide further information on the subject as my family has just dealt with a tick episode. It has come to my attention that many people don’t know what to do after they find a tick on themselves or someone else. I knew that it is most important when removing a tick is to ensure to remove the entire head with tweezers or a tick removal product. Once removed, to wash the area gently with rubbing alcohol. Luckily I have a daughter-in-law in a medical profession who instructed me as to the procedure to follow immediately after removing the tick. Her instruction was to proceed to a pharmacy and advise the pharmacist of the tick bite. The pharmacist will ask you how long you believe you had the tick on your body and then will prepare a prescription for you. Depending on the length of time before the tick was removed will determine the type of prescription. This process takes a very short amount of time, and you can save yourself from a possible debilitating illness. I encourage everyone to take the time to go to your pharmacy and let them assist you.
