Cornwall played host to international glamour on September 5 and 6 as Bond fans gathered at the Port Theatre for the Licence to Thrill James Bond Festival, featuring two nights of classic films and celebrity appearances. Organized by Sean and Nikolai Adams, the event brought together iconic Bond actresses and local supporters, all in support of the Children’s Treatment Centre.
Friday night’s feature was a special 60th anniversary screening of Thunderball, introduced by Martine Beswick (Paula Caplan), Valerie Leon (Never Say Never Again), and Caroline Munro (Naomi in The Spy Who Loved Me). All three actresses later took part in a Q&A session with fans.
“I’m still in amazement,” said Beswick. “I do not understand how this continues. But the fans are so amazing, and I’m honored to be here tonight, especially for a children’s charity.”
Leon echoed that sentiment, adding, “A Bond girl is forever-it doesn’t matter if you had a cameo or were a leading lady.” When asked about her most memorable moment, she smiled, “When I was in bed with Sean Connery in Never Say Never Again.”
Munro said she was “more than thrilled” to support the cause. “It sounds like an incredible charity. To support it in some small way is amazing,” she said. On the film side, she named The Spy Who Loved Me as her favorite: “Working with Roger [Moore] was an absolute pure joy.”
Saturday featured a screening of The Spy Who Loved Me with another Q&A.
“It’s so exciting seeing it all come together-the red carpet, the posters, the auction, the martinis being served.”
“We’re basically sold out,” said co-organizer Nikolai Adams. There were only a handful of tickets available at the door. The final tally will be announced shortly.
