The Beer Store location in Alexandria and the outlet on Brookdale Avenue in Cornwall will be closed November 16 as the corporation continues to downsize in the wake of increased access to alcohol at grocery and convenience stores.
“Selling beer and collecting empties in Ontario is changing as part of marketplace expansion,” said Ozzie Ahmed, the vice president of retail at The Beer Store.
“To meet the needs of an evolving retail market, The Beer Store is making the difficult decision to close retail locations and is committed to meeting the requirements of the early implementation agreement. We know this is difficult news for consumers, recyclers and our employees.”
The other Beer Store on Sydney Street in Cornwall remains open.
Part of an agreement between the government and the Beer Store includes keeping at least 300 stores open until Dec. 31.
