This month I had the pleasure of attending a groundbreaking in Lancaster as construction officially began on a new long-term care home that will bring 128 modern beds to our community. Built by Arch Corporation, this project is part of our government’s ongoing plan to build for the future, create good jobs, and ensure seniors receive the quality of care and quality of life they deserve.
The three-storey redevelopment of the Lancaster Long Term Care Residence has been carefully designed with residents in mind. Featuring four Resident Home Areas (RHAs), each accommodating up to 32 residents, the home will foster a more intimate and familiar living environment. Every RHA will include its own dining and activity areas, lounges, and bedrooms, helping residents feel truly at home. In addition, the design includes larger common spaces, air conditioning throughout, terraces, landscaped courtyards, and ample natural light – all of which will contribute to a safe, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere.
This project is part of our government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across Ontario as outlined in our 2025 Budget. It reflects the province’s four-pillar strategy for long-term care: investing in staffing and care, improving quality and enforcement, building modern homes, and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient services.
The Lancaster project is also supported by our government’s Building Ontario Fund and the newly introduced Long-Term Care Home Capital Funding Policy, which provides fairer, more responsive funding that reflects local realities. Through initiatives like these, we are taking innovative steps to get more homes built to ensure seniors have the care they need close to home.
I’m proud to stand behind this project which means so much to our community. This new home will provide high-quality care while creating a warm environment of connection, comfort, and belonging. For seniors and their loved ones, it represents more than a residence-it is a lasting commitment to compassion and community for years to come
