Cornwall’s newest gourmet hotspot is officially open and serving dessert. Maverick’s Donuts celebrated its grand opening at the Tudor Centre, located at 841 Sydney Street, with a three-day event packed with fun, flavour, and festivities from September 26 to 28.
After a soft opening in early August, the local owners-Jean-François (JF) Leduc, Tammy Lévesque, and Jerry Welsh-are excited to welcome the public in a big way. “The community has been wonderful,” said Leduc. “We wanted to create more than just a donut shop; we wanted a celebration.”
The grand opening included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live radio broadcasts, a mini-golf course, and entertainment like balloon art, face painting, and henna tattoos. Mayor Justin Towndale, MPP Nolan Quinn, and MP Eric Duncan all took part.
Maverick’s, known for its fresh daily-made donuts, offers bold flavours like Maple Bacon and Oreo Nirvana, with vegan and yeast options available. “Our donuts are made fresh in-house daily,” said Leduc. “It’s exciting to walk in and see a donut bar full of colour and great taste.”
Chamber President Cristian Urroz called it “a great addition to the city,” adding his personal favourite Maverick’s donut is “the classic cinnamon.”
