The Akwesasne Skatepark was buzzing with energy on Saturday, August 9, as the MCA Economic Development Department hosted Skate Jam, a full day of skating, races, competitions, and prizes. Olympic hopeful Zoe Zollinger and professional skateboarder Adam Hopkins joined local skaters of all ages and skill levels, offering tips, joining games, and showing off their skills. The event, which ran from 1 p.m. until dark, drew a steady crowd of participants and spectators.
The weekend’s activities continued on Sunday, August 10, with Youth Skate Camps led by Zollinger and Hopkins. Morning and afternoon sessions gave young skaters the chance to build confidence, learn new tricks, and enjoy giveaways – including prizes from Vans Canada. Boards, helmets, and pads were available for those who needed them, ensuring everyone could take part safely.
Organizers thanked Akwesasne Child & Family Services for sponsoring the weekend, which brought the community together for an action-packed celebration of skate culture and youth recreation.
