The Cornwall & District Horticultural Society hosted its Autumn Plant Sale on September 27 at the Seaway Senior Citizens Club parking lot, offering perennials, house plants, baked goods, and garden tools to eager shoppers. The fundraiser helps support ongoing community ventures, including a recently unveiled garden at the Cornwall Community Museum.
“We are having a fundraiser for the horticultural society. That helps us with our projects, community projects and whatever with the club,” explained Vice President Lorraine King. “Going forward into next year, we’re looking for a project and some of this will help fund that.”
King emphasized accessibility: “You don’t have to be like an expert. You can be a novice … We have master gardeners with us. They can answer questions.”
Meanwhile, the event spotlighted the Seaway Seniors’ own garden initiative. Project coordinator Karen Douglass Cooper noted that the centre recently received a grant to build a senior-friendly community garden with raised beds and collaborative workshops. “We’ve given away 90 bags of fresh vegetables this year … We support the horticultural society, and they support us.”
