The Cornwall Police Service hosted its annual Cops, Kids & Fishing event on the morning of October 4 at Marina 200, welcoming more than 30 local youth for a day of outdoor adventure and connection. Each child received a free fishing pole, tackle kit, and gift bag-and many enjoyed the thrill of catching their first fish.
“It’s about giving kids an opportunity to get away from the tech and out in the outdoors,” said Detective Sergeant Rachel Carpenter, who has helped organize the event for many years. “Just try to be patient and enjoy being outside in nature-and if you catch a fish, that’s a bonus!”
Children also got the rare chance to ride aboard the RCMP boat, adding extra excitement to the day. Nearly every child caught a fish this year, making the event a memorable success.
The CPS thanked its many sponsors and volunteers, including the Cornwall Police Association, Senior Officer Association, Police Association of Ontario, Cornwall Police Service Board, City of Cornwall, Tight Lines Tackle Shop, Optimist Club of Cornwall-which provided a delicious BBQ-Tim Hortons Brookdale, and Peavey Mart.
This annual tradition continues to create lasting memories while building positive relationships between police and youth.
