The students at Laggan Public School in North Glengarry energetically embraced the 45th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run and raised a total of $4,715. Through the “Finish It Club”, the students were challenged to run laps in Terry’s honour after school. Thirty-six Laggan students ran more than 150 laps each to raise funds and Bentley Villeneuve, a Grade 4 student at Laggan P.S., ran 221 laps in total over the three-week time frame.
Organizing teachers and administrators set a goal of $4,000 for the students to achieve and promised fun challenges if the amount could be met. By surpassing the goal by over $700, the students were allowed to duct tape a teacher to a pole, throw water balloons at Laggan staff, dress two teachers in wacky outfits, spray silly string at teachers, as well as cut both Mrs. MacLeod and Mme Robyn’s hair, which will, in turn, be donated.
In addition, two randomly chosen classes from Laggan P.S. will head out on a field trip to Ouimet Farm in Vankleek Hill, where they will get to tour through a corn maize designed as a special tribute to Terry Fox. Since initiating the annual fundraising campaign in 2005, Laggan Public School staff and students have raised an incredible $73,639 for the Terry Fox Foundation. What an amazing achievement for a small, rural school with under 250 students.
