Young environmental leaders from across the Frontenac Arch Biosphere region will gather at the Benson Centre on Tuesday, November 4, for the fifth annual Youth Climate Action Summit. Hosted by the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network, City of Cornwall, and The River Institute, the event empowers youth aged 14-18 to develop Climate Action Plans (CAPs) for their schools and communities.
Mohawk physician Dr. Ojistoh Horn will deliver the keynote, “Local Action for the Health of the Planet,” blending Indigenous knowledge and practical solutions. A local organic lunch will be catered by Cornerstone Organics, who will also lead a sustainable farming workshop.
The afternoon includes 18 workshops-from water quality testing to growing fruits and nuts from seed-with several offered in both English and French. A new entrepreneurship panel will spotlight local green businesses. Attendees can apply for up to $500 in seed funding to launch their projects.
“Youth are not just leaders of tomorrow-they are leaders today,” said FABN Executive Director Shannon Lem. Registration is open until October 17 at frontenacarchbiosphere.ca.
