Phase 1 of the townhome development called Trillium Landing, to be built at McDougald Street in Alexandria, is expected to begin construction within the near future. Forty-four units will eventually be constructed just north of Glengarry District High School. Alcore Homes, at their own financial risk, has established a pre-servicing agreement with North Glengarry Townshop to permit construction to begin before final registration of the development’s plans.
The townhome subdivision has been designed to include the development of services, roadways, and will include a stormwater management block. The first phase of the subdivision will include 16 townhomes, some with additional basement apartments for higher density housing. The plans have been reviewed by consulting engineers for the Township, along with North Glengarry Public Works, the Raisin Region Conservation Authority and SDG Counties’ Engineering team.
Deputy Mayor Williams did express some concern about the availability of sufficient parking in the subdivision, and the potential for streets becoming too crowded with parked cars. Municipal Planning consultant, Peter Young, said North Glengarry Township Council could establish no parking zones on the street nearest the townhome development if it is decided the roads are becoming too crowded for cars and pedestrians to navigate safely.
