A heartfelt story and a social media challenge have resulted in a $5,000 donation to the Agape Centre’s Kids Community Kitchen program. Tanya Flaro of Remax Affiliates Marquis attended her first 100+ Women Who Care event, where Agape’s presentation struck a chord. Moved by a story about a hungry child arriving early one morning, she pledged $2,000 and challenged her social media followers to match it. Within two days, $3,000 more was raised.
“The messages started pouring in,” said Flaro. “It breaks my heart to know children are going without. I had to do something.”
The funding will help meet growing demand. “In October we had 353 visits, up from just 50 in June,” said Lisa Duprau, Executive Director at the Agape Centre. “Thanks to Tanya’s generosity, we can continue to offer children a nutritious breakfast and lunch for school.”
Though Agape didn’t win the vote at the 100 Women event, the outpouring of community support ensured the kitchen received even more than its original $4,000 ask. “We truly have such a generous community,” added Duprau.
