The third annual Chucklez N’ Knuckles delivered a knockout night of laughter and competition at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 297 in Cornwall. The event combined an afternoon of sanctioned amateur boxing with an evening of stand-up comedy, raising an estimated $3,500 in support of Champs Eastside Boxing Gym.
“This is our third year running this, and we packed the place,” said Joe Bowman, CEO of LoL Entertainment. “It’s a unique blend, boxing followed by comedy, and it’s become something we’re proud to do every year.”
The fundraising included $3,500 in direct proceeds and a motorcycle raffle still underway, with a 2019 Suzuki Boulevard donated by Bowtie Auto Sales. Once full, the raffle is expected to add another $5,000.
The boxing portion, sanctioned by Boxing Ontario, featured local and international competitors. Among the winners was Anthony Bombarra of Vermont, who won by unanimous decision against Ulas Aktas.
“I had never expected Joe would come back and help organize events like this,” said Champs owner Jorge Luis. “He was a five-time Ontario champion and two-time national champion. This means a lot.”
