Cornwall Transit has completed a major two-year renovation and expansion of its maintenance garage, signalling a renewed investment in local transit infrastructure. Funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, the project was supported by all three levels of government.
The upgrades included a 30-foot by-75-foot addition, three new maintenance bays, and expanded office space. The building also received new metal siding and modern garage doors, replacing original components dating back to 1974.
“The recent addition and upgrades to our maintenance garage represent a strategic investment in the long-term sustainability of our infrastructure,” said Jean Marcil, Manager of Cornwall Transit. “Thanks to government funding, we’ve enhanced our capacity to meet growing demand, improve operational efficiency, and ensure Cornwall Transit remains a centralized hub for vehicle maintenance for years to come.”
The expanded facility also supports the Cornwall Police Service and Emergency Medical Services vehicles, adding overnight storage, confidential inspections, and more efficient vehicle movement.
