Cornwall-raised entrepreneur Shannon Ferguson has received Wilfrid Laurier University’s 2025 Alumni Award of Excellence for Entrepreneurial Spirit. Now living in South Glengarry, Ferguson is co-founder and CEO of FanSaves, a sports-tech company that works with 100+ teams, connecting fans to 2,500+ brands and replacing paper coupons with digital deals.
She accepted the honour at Laurier’s Waterloo campus, where she was also praised for community leadership, mentoring women, serving on the United Way Cornwall & SDG board, and helping committees raise more than $500,000 locally.
“The lessons in the classes that I took at Laurier taught me how to succeed in life and my career, while the lessons I learned outside of the classroom taught me how to fail forward, something that has been extremely important in my entrepreneurial journey,” Ferguson said in her acceptance speech. A 2008 Laurier Communication Studies graduate, she later completed a post-grad in Broadcast Journalism at Loyalist College and studied at Columbia University.
