The annual Peanut Butter Challenge is back, and this year’s goal is to beat last year’s haul of 6,160 jars-all in support of the Agapè Centre’s food bank.
Started in 2013 by Joanne LeCompte of Royal LePage Performance Realty, the initiative began with 50 jars and has grown significantly. “We are lucky to live here,” said LeCompte. “The people of Cornwall step up every single time.”
Over 20 businesses and organizations are participating, from the Cornwall Curling Club to First Student Iroquois. Donations can be dropped off at any participating location.
“Peanut butter is the most expensive item for Agapè to purchase,” said LeCompte. “This challenge eases that burden so they can focus on other much-needed items.”
Lisa Duprau, Executive Director of the Agapè Centre, emphasized the growing need: “With our country in the midst of a food insecurity crisis, the demand for our programs continues to increase.”
“Peanut butter isn’t just popular, it’s packed with protein and shelf-stable. But it’s also costly. That’s why this drive is so important to us,” Duprau added. The Peanut Butter Challenge runs until November 30.
