The Glengarry Pioneer Museum hosted a festive Christmas Market in Dunvegan, with 25 vendors. Despite the chilly day, the Market was busy with shoppers seeking out artisan crafts or specialty food and wine.
Bianca Forcillo-Pilon from Earthly Discoveries had a booth that offered everything from flannel swaddling blankets and bibs for babies, to jewellery, hand-carved wooden toys, clothing and etched glassware. Earthly Discoveries is truly a family enterprise and everything is “made with love.” Forcillo-Pilon said she learned to sew from her grandmother and her mother pitches in to help make the custom items. Her partner, Vincent L’Ecuyer, carves all the wooden toys which she sands for hours to ensure each piece is smooth for children’s hands. She attended the Stitch in Time event at the museum and was so taken with the kindness and generosity of the community that she knew she wanted to participate in the Christmas Market.
Also available at the Market were handmade baskets, Swedish stars and beautiful woven angels for sale, as well as candles, holiday decorations, and wooden crafts – everything to check off those names on your holiday gift list. Even an iconic little red truck with a Christmas tree in the back made the perfect backdrop for photos. Attendees enjoyed the chance to browse the tables and chat with vendors and neighbours, while supporting artisans with their one-of-a-kind creations, all in a charming shopping environment at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum.
