The Optimist Club of Cornwall helped kick off the holiday season with its Winter Christmas Craft Show at the Optimist Clubhouse on Sunnyside Avenue. Community members browsed a variety of handmade creations from about 15 local vendors while supporting the club’s annual toy drive for children and families. Admission was a monetary donation or a new, unwrapped toy, with donors entered for a door prize.
“We have a Christmas holiday craft show with a bunch of vendors selling various things, but everything’s handmade,” said craft show chair Julie Desjardins, who has been with the Optimist Club for about three years. “My favourite part is running into people you haven’t seen in a long time and getting in the Christmas spirit.”
Tables were filled with piñatas, Christmas stockings, handmade jewelry, wood signs, decorations, crochet items, sticker magnets, candles, and even self-published books. Among the makers was Zoey Dean of Zoey’s Laser Engraving. “I can engrave pictures onto slate and wood, do ornaments and custom pieces, even QR codes,” he explained, adding that customers typically send family photos digitally to be etched onto slate keepsakes.
