Parker McDonald of Long Sault lived out two hockey dreams thanks to the Ottawa Senators and CHEO. The 11-year-old, battling cancer, attended Hockey Fights Cancer Night November 14 at the Canadian Tire Centre, with seats donated by Diesel’s Army. He received Sens merchandise, a warm-up puck from Senator Nick Cousins, and the Senators Community Foundation capped off the night by arranging for him to ride the Zamboni, a dream come true. “I had so much fun riding the Zamboni on the ice, waving to everyone. They even let me dump the snow after,” Parker said. In December, during a routine appointment at CHEO, Parker received another surprise when Ottawa Senators players dropped by to visit young patients. “It was so cool, I got to meet all the Sens players and spend some time with them. Especially Brady Tkachuk (team captain) who is my favourite player,” he said. Parker, who was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma and underwent chemotherapy and major leg surgery to reconstruct part of his leg and knee, now serves as an ambassador for CHEO-supported events, helping promote Miracle Treat Day and proudly taking part in the Terry Fox Run.
