The St. Andrews Firefighters Association collected 1,784 jars of peanut butter this fall for the Agapè Centre as part of this year’s Peanut Butter Challenge.
Association president and firefighter Karley Kuzevski, who helped collect 1,003 jars along with another 781 from the community, said the results show how many people were involved. “Our student volunteers delivering flyers, our generous sponsors, our community members, and our firefighters all worked together under the St. Andrews Firefighters Association of South Stormont Fire Rescue,” she said. “It proved that when we stand together, firefighters and neighbours alike, we can lift families in ways that truly matter.”
“At the core of volunteer firefighting is a simple truth: we show up for people,” Kuzevski added. “This drive let us do that in a different, deeply human way. Watching our community choose kindness, jar by jar, was emotional and humbling.”
In total, the 12th annual Peanut Butter Challenge, coordinated by Royal LePage Performance Realty, brought in 3,690 jars for the Agapè Centre from participating teams and businesses, including Seaway News. With an average cost of $4.99 per jar, the campaign represents more than $18,400 in food support for local families.
