Gisèle Rouleau has been recognized as the 2025 recipient of the Profession in Play: Early Years Excellence Award, honouring her commitment to inclusive, play-based learning in Cornwall and SDG.
The City of Cornwall’s annual award, formerly known as “ECE of the Year,” celebrates educators who show outstanding leadership, innovation, and compassion in their work with young children. Rouleau, who has worked at Centre pour l’enfant et la famille ONyva – Francophone de SDG since 2021, was praised for creating environments where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore. “I was very surprised to learn that I had received the Early Childhood Educator of the Year award,” Rouleau said. “It truly felt wonderful to be recognized within our amazing community of educators.” Born and raised in Cornwall, Rouleau completed her elementary and secondary education in French before earning her Early Childhood Education diploma in English from St. Lawrence College in 2018. Her bilingual background and community roots are reflected in her work.
“What I love most about being an early childhood educator is supporting children from birth to six, and their parents,” she explained. “Sometimes parents need support too, and when I can help guide them with a resource or answer, it makes me feel like I’m doing everything I can.” The City described Rouleau as a reflective educator and strong advocate for children’s rights. “Early Childhood Educators play a vital role in shaping the futures of our youngest learners,” said Mellissa Morgan, General Manager of Human Services. “Congratulations to Gisèle on this well-deserved recognition.”
